I love this idea! It is obviously not a new concept because I found many references on the Internet. How fun...and it makes for an easy theme party...and I love theme parties! Without a doubt you will end up with great photos. Here are a few things I found.
What I think I like most about this is the men in women's sweaters...to funny...love the vests.
There is a Ugly Christmas Sweater Party web site. Here you can buy and sell your ugly sweaters, share your party photos and search for new ideas.
A couple of activities...
Make sugar cookies shaped like sweaters and have a ugly sweater cookie decorating contest. Great for kids or teens. The ladies may even get into this one.
Give awards for the ugliest sweaters. Ones with the largest shoulder pads, most garish use of color, most embellished and so on. Have everyone vote. Make certificates or give tacky awards.
Have lots of things your guests can add to their outfits. Hats, necklaces, socks, anything that lights up. Give them as party favors. Create a photo area for lots of posing.

I know it's past Christmas, but I recently blogged about my Ugly Sweater party from 2007. It was hilarious, and everyone kept asking about it for Christmas 2008 and can't wait for the next one. It's an easy theme to do, as the outfits are all the decor you need.
ReplyDeleteI attended an Ugly Christmas sweater party last year and it was one of the best parties I've ever been too! Ebay and Goodwill have a large selection of Ugly Christmas Sweaters. Also I found a cool site that has a large selection of ugly Christmas Sweaters...
